We’re going to be blessed with great weather (highs in the lower 80s) and plenty of things to do this weekend on Florida’s Space Coast!
Ron Jon Beach ‘N Boards Fest washes ashore on Friday with fun in the for everyone! Hailed as the largest pro surfing event in Florida, Beach N’ Boards Fest celebrates boards sports in a big way. For three days, they take over Cocoa Beach’s Shepard’s Park a junior pro surfing competition, kite and stand-up paddle board demonstrations, skateboard and kite boarding exhibitions, the world’s best action sports film festival and even a women’s volleyball tournament. In its third year, the festival also gives beachgoers the opportunity to get in on the action by with free surfing, stand-up paddle board and kite-boarding lessons.
The fun doesn’t stop once the sun sets. On Friday night, two street festivals (Melbourne and Titusville) will be hosted on opposite ends of the County. Both downtown Friday Fests are family-friendly events featuring early hours (6-9pm) and special play areas for kids. Downtown Titusville’s event, Marley Madness, will be a reggae-themed celebration with special musical guests Evens Colas and Sista Time. Highlights also include fire spinning, LED manipulation by The Britton Brothers and merchant specials.
This weekend is definitely for art lovers. You can still catch Modern Twist: Contemporary Japanese Bamboo Art and Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray on exhibit, but for those looking for something less static, we recommend the 51st Annual Titusville Art League Spring Art Show and the Fox Lake Spring Craft Fair. Both offer something for all art lovers but are completely different. While the Art League’s show is a juried event boasting almost a hundred competitive artists displaying fine art within various mediums, Fox Lake draws hundreds of artisans and crafters who’ve found their niche producing handmade or homemade crafts. Both events are free to the general public. The Art League Spring Art Show attendance also comes with free admission to the Police Hall of Fame where the event will be held.
Straighten up and fly right! TICO Warbird Airshow will take to the blue skies over the Space Coast for its 38th show March 12-15. Started by a group of twelve former combat veterans flying their own surplus military aircraft, the show has grown exponentially over the years with over 40 aircraft participating this year along with special guests the USAF Thunderbirds! The three-day event also includes military and civilian aircraft static displays, firepower demonstrations, flight simulators, public airplane and helicopter rides.
For the musically inclined, world-renowned pianist Joyce Yang will showcase her dazzling artistry during Sergei Prokofiev’s electrifying Third Piano Concerto when the Brevard Symphony Orchestra takes the stage on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the King Center for the Performing Arts Brevard Symphony Orchestra for their Subscription Concert 5. Led by Music Director and Principal Conductor Christopher Confessore, the program will also include Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Schubert’s the Great Ninth Symphony. Two performances available at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. For tickets, call the King Center Box Office at (321) 242-2219 or purchase online at www.brevardsymphony.com.
