Brevard Zoo Celebrates Earth Day with Party for the Planet


The Brevard Zoo plans to show the earth some love on April 12, 2014 as they celebrate Earth Day. This event gives guests to the Zoo the opportunity to educate themselves on important wildlife and environmental conservation efforts in a fun way. This year’s focus is on the Indian River Lagoon and ways to protect it.

The event features music, outdoor activities for kids, interactive displays, the Zoo’s local conservation projects, including oyster reef restoration, crafts and giveaways.

Community organizations will provide information to guests on ways to support energy and wildlife conservation.

Organizations participating in Party for the Planet include Brevard County Natural Resource Management Boating & Waterways, Brevard County Natural Resource Management Storm Water Outreach, Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands, Brevard County Solid Waste, City of Melbourne’s ECO Division, Hubbs – Seaworld Research Institute, Marine Resources Council Whale Program, Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Blue Life, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Coco Janell Organics, Sebastian Inlet ChapOrganics, Sebastian Inlet Chapter of Surfrider Foundation and Trepovicht Recycling Inc.

Party for the Planet is the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ signature Earth Day event and the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America. The event is free with Zoo admission.

The Brevard Zoo is located at 8225 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne, FL. They are open daily, except for Christmas and Thanksgiving from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine.  Last admission is 4:15 p.m.
