The Brevard Nature Alliance (BNA) and Promise In Brevard (PROMISE) have partnered this year for the 17th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival (SCBWF) in a mutual effort to raise awareness of individuals with special needs on Florida’s Space Coast.
On Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, Promise will hold their 2nd Annual Scrub Jay 5K Fun Run/Walk and Duathlon at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, FL. Both races will begin at the park with the Scrub Jay 5K Fun Run/Walk taking place along the park’s lake pathways, while the Duathlon, a USAT sanctioned event, will encompass the City of Titusville and end with a 5K run at the park.
The event will also feature local DJ celebrity, Timmy Vee from radio station WA1A 107.1FM, a Zumba warm-up, door prizes and a raffle. Athletes or individuals of all fitness levels are invited to participate in this event which will help to insure that the Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival is accessible to everyone to enjoy bird and wildlife watching and participate in activities that promote these national recreational interests no matter what their ability.
PROMISE is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop community awareness and establish appropriate housing and lifestyle choices for persons with disabilities.
The 17th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival is scheduled for January 22-27, 2014. Organized by the Brevard Nature Alliance, the event is one of the largest birding events in North America.
The Festival focuses on the abundance and diversity of the natural world around us – from the Atlantic Ocean westward to the St. Johns River and surrounding wetlands. Almost 100+ workshops and activities fill the six day schedule with an eEducational emphasis is placed on the preservation and management of animals and their habitats, as well as the cultural heritage and historical venues to be found in East Central Florida. The theme of this year’s festival will be about RAPTORS – interesting and intriguing birds of prey.
