The series is a recognition of the 5-year expansion of the Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon and NASA’s Shuttle Program with space shuttle medals for each shuttle’s inaugural flight.

In order to earn the commemorative medals, runners of the Space Coast Marathon will have to run each year. More times you run in the marathon, the more shuttle medals you earn. For example, if you run in the marathon three out of the five years, you earn the Milky Way Challenge Finisher medal. The inaugural medal for the “Big Bang Series” will be the Columbia Medal.

The Space Coast Marathon and Half marathon is in its 42nd year on Florida’s Space Coast and is the oldest marathon in the area and its USTAF certified course is a Boston qualifier. Space themed, the race attracts thousands of runners around the world Thanksgiving weekend.

Along with earning a custom “Space Shuttle” medal and marathon t-shirts, runner will be treated to Health First Health Plans Health & Fitness Expo and a Back into Orbit After Party.
