Charity Surfing Festival Kicks Off a Busy September on Florida’s Space Coast!

Labor Day weekend might signal the end of Summer, but on Florida’s Space Coast you wouldn’t know it because sand, surf and fun continues to thrive along with our social scene!  And September looks to be jammed packed with a TON of things to do up and down our coast!


Despite recently losing their founder, Rich Salick, the 27th Annual Rich Salick NKF PRO/AM,held every Labor Day Weekend, is  still one of the most anticipated surfing events on the East Coast! 

Hailed as one of the largest charity surfing festivals, the Rich Salick NKF PRO/AM draws professional and amateur surfers from around the world to iconic Cocoa Beach, FL to compete for not only bragging rights, but also cash and prizes. 

Although this five-day festival doesn’t officially start until Labor Day weekend, organizers have added additional events a week early! Event highlights include the NKF Surf and Turf Contest, VIP luau, Meet & Greet with Surfing Hall of Fame Members, Mar Chiquita bikini contest, and Taste of Brevard

The Ruth Funk Center for Textiles will open one of their most anticipated exhibits to date, “Battle Worn: Masculine Ideals and Military Identity in Modern Japanese Textiles” exhibit from September 8 through December 15.  The exhibit covers how during WWII, Japanese loved ones often dedicated unique textiles that accompanied men into battle to provide both courage and protect. 

Battle Worn will feature over 50 military textiles, hand-painted on cotton and silk, from the private collection of Dr. Michael Bortner.  Highlights include army and navy celebration banners, “good luck” flags,” “one-thousand” stitch belts, uniforms, and children’s toys. 

 

The Ruth Funk Center for Textiles is open to the public Tuesday – Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m.  For more information, call (321) 674-8313.

The turtle ALWAYS wins in the annual Turtle Krawl 5k Run/Walk!  Scheduled for the third weekend in September, the Turtle Krawl 5k Run/Walk, benefits the Sea Turtle Preservation Society and its mission to educate the public about marine turtles!

This nine-year old race has grown to become one of the most popular on the Space Coast mainly due to the course’s aesthetic beachside location, Nance Park

The Turtle Krawl 5k Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, September 15th. Turtle Krawl Tech Shirts and reusable bags to the first 750 registrants!

Do you have the need for speed?

Round up your family and friends and come on down to Florida’s Space Coast!  From September 22-23, the skies above Cocoa Beach will be teeming with a lineup of civilian and military aircraft for the 4th Annual Cocoa Beach Air Show.

The Cocoa Beach Air Show was selected as one of only ten shows in the nation to receive a demonstration of the V-22 Osprey by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Other highlights of this two-day, beachside event include flight demonstration team performances, aerial acrobatics, parachute jumps, much more!  

Tickets are on sale now starting at just $19.00 and they include reserved parking within walking distance of Show Center.  VIP hospitality in the Clubhouse Chalet and the Colonel’s Club start at just $89.00 and include VIP parking right at Show Center.
