Make room for more King cake and bon temps as the Cocoa Village Mardi Gras rolls into Florida’s Space Coast this weekend. And in its 20th year, the this year’s festivities will be bigger and better! From a Family Gras, to a fantastic street parade and Mardi Gras Paws just for pets, each night is themed and suited to fit the young and the young at heart!
The weekend kicks off with a family oriented celebration tonight in Riverfront Park. Expect authentic Cajun and Creole food, Cajun style children’s entertainment, mask crafts, a children’s parade and much more. Admission and parking is FREE!
On Saturday, Bill “The Sauce Boss” Wharton will headline the night’s festivities, which will include musical entertainment on two stages, stilt walkers, a street parade with floats and thousands of beads sponsored by Central Florida News 13 and great food.
Finally, but not least the Central Brevard Humane Society will host the Mardi Gras Paws in the Park on Sunday, February 26th, from 12 noon – 3 p.m. This free event will include rescue groups, a Mardi Gras Parade of Pets, a pet costume contest, a vendor village, the crowning of the “furry” King and Queen of the Park, a demonstration from the Brevard Sheriff Department’s Paw & Stripes Cadets, and live musical entertainment. All animals must be on a lease and have proof of current shots along with a county tag.
The Central Brevard Humane Society unlike the County’s Animal Care Centers in Melbourne and Titusville, is not funded through tax dollars. All of their funding comes through donations, adoption fees, product sales, fundraisers and their (4) Molly Mutt Thrift Stores located in downtown Melbourne, Merritt Island, Palm Bay and Rockledge.
Whatever you decide to get into this weekend on the Space Coast, there’s tons of fun to be had! For a complete run down of events for our coast visit www.visitspacecoast.com.
