Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour Cruises Through Florida

The 17th Annual Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour® presented by GM Performance Division will kickoff on Florida’s Space Coast to begin a 7 city, 7 day tour through America’s heartland. 

As its only stop in the State of Florida, area leaders are tickled pink about the opportunity to host the first leg of the 1,600 mile event that will attract thousands of enthusiats not only locally, but from throughout America.  Some will make the Long Haul® –completing every mile of the 1,600 mile hot rodding adventure while others will ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ at the daily car shows planned at each stop along the way with free admission for spectators.

“We’re elated to be chosen as the kickoff city for the 2011 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour,” said Rob Varley, Executive Director, Space Coast Office of Tourism.  “With over 1,000 room nights already booked for the kickoff weekend, we’re expecting the Tour to generate several million dollars of economic impact for the city and county.”

“I am delighted to see an event of this caliber kicking off in the 15th Congressional District, drawing thousands of participants from every corner of the nation” said Congressman Bill Posey. “As a long time motorsports enthusiast I’m going to be one of those participants and drive the first leg of the tour to Georgia.”

The 17th Annual Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour will officially start on June 4, 2011 in Port Canaveral, Florida, the second busiest cruise port in the world and wind down on Friday, June 10, 2011 in Detroit, MI.  Presented by GM Performance Division the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour® brings together thousands of performance car enthusiasts. 

Port Canaveral will host the Painless Performance Products Kickoff Cruise Night for the 2011 event on Saturday, June 4th from 9am – 6:30 pm. And on Sunday, drivers will be treated to a one-of-a-kind driving tour inside Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex .  The drive-along tour  will take Power Tour participants past the launching facilities, specifically Launch Complex 39 where the Space Shuttle Atlantis will blast off on July 8, 2011.

Over 4,500 participating cars and 65,000 spectators are expected for the entire Tour.  At each stop, over 80 premiere automotive and aftermarket manufacturers will set up a travelling performance fair with booths and displays of everything on the car enthusiast’s wish list.  Activities on-site will include contests & giveaways from the Comp Cams Main Stage, shopping in the Performance Midway, participants testing their torque & horsepower on the Lucas Oil/E3 Sparkplugs Dyno, a Pioneer car audio live install on pre-selected Power Tour cars, a visit from IndyCar Racing Legend, Mario Andretti at the Magnaflow display and so much more!    

After leaving the Space Coast, the Power Tour will cruise up through the deep South into the upper Midwest  with stops in Valdosta, Georgia; Montgomery, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee; Indianapolis, Indiana; Muskegon, Michigan; then wrap up in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, June 10th.
