It’s Officially Baseball Season on Florida’s Space Coast

Jesus Flores Takes One for the Team

The second day of spring training begins today on Florida’s Space Coast.  Pitchers and catchers report yesterday to Space Coast Stadium in Viera, FL as did the great weather.

Already the excitement is building for the upcoming baseball season within the Washington Nationals club house.  Mainly because general manager Mike Rizzo spent his offseason working to ensure the  Nats improve their 5th place ranking in the National League Eastern Division by beefing up their defense and pitching line-up.

So over the course of the past few months and more than a dozen transactions Rizzo acquired Jayson Werth, Alex Cora, Rick Ankiel, Adam LaRoche and Jerry Hairston Jr.

Seems like the excitement and the desire to win has bubbled over so much that several position players, who are not required to report until Sunday, have arrived at camp early.  According to press reports, Jayson Werth, Ryan Zimmerman, Ian Desmond, Nyjer Morgan and Danny Espinosa were in batting practice late Monday morning.

The Nats first game will be on Tuesday, March 1 at Space Coast Stadium against the New York Mets.  For tickets or VIP packages visit the Nats official website.
