Second Hand Charity Sparks A Tasty Tradition!

I’m sure the cop jokes are flying today for National Donut Day, but there’s an important meaning behind this day celebrating this circular, deep-fried sweet bread with a hole in the middle that we all love.

National Doughnut Day follows on the heels of an annual fundraiser started by the Salvation Army back in 1938 to help the needy during the Great Depression and to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.

As a part of this holiday, many doughnut stores both independent and chain offer free doughnuts on this day which marks a time when people were simply acting charitable to another human being.

People can also support Donut Day, with a donation or through volunteering, you help The Salvation Army keep its food pantries, meals on wheels, senior citizen feeding programs and childcare nutrition programs alive and well.

The Krispy Kreme @ 2040 North Wickham Road in Melbourne, FL is participating in this tasty event which should remind us to give back those in need.
