Surfing Will Pack One, Two, Three Punch on Sebastian Inlet!

nssa-east-champ-160x600After one major surfing event ends on Florida’s Space Coast another begins.  From Thursday through Saturday, April 16-19, hundreds of surfers will hit the waves at Sebastian Inlet  for the 25th Annual National Scholastic Surfing Association’s Regional East Coast Championships.

 The 2009 East Coast Championships is a culmination of  the NSSA’s four east coast regional conferences. Therefore, over 400 contestants from Maine to Florida, Puerto Rico and even the Bahamas who competed in the events will be on hand to compete for Regional titles along with valuable 6-star ratings points In addition, the championships will provide a pivotal opportunity for competitors to earn a berth in The NSSA National Championships in Salt Creek and Lower Trestles, California. The finals will be run Sunday. 

Also running concurrently in the event is the East Coast Collegiate and High School Championships and the East Coast Airshow Championships where competitors will be given the chance to unleash their aerial skills in this innovative and crowd-pleasing freestyle format. 

On Friday, from 6-9 p.m., the events sponsor, Vero Beach Hotel and Club, 3500 Ocean Drive in Vero Beach, FL,  will hold a reception for the NSSA.  Signed surfboards from past and present World Tour pros who hail from Florida will be up for auction. Surfboards have been donated from nine-time world champion Kelly Slater, 2001 world champion C.J. Hobgood, twin brother Damien Hobgood, Shea Lopez, Matt Kechele, and Brian Hewitson.  Surfboards will be on display in the hotel all week.
