Top 12 Festivals…

…on Florida’s Space Coast

I’ve just finished compiling all of the festivals scheduled for 2009 on Florida’s Space Coast.  Surprisingly enough I’ve been to 95% of them. How many can say that even the natives?  Anyhoo, I’ve decided to choose a festival for each month of the year in which I feel you’re guaranteed to have a great time.  Don’t you love me?

January

O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro – January 12-18, 2009

The O’Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro Presented by Ron Jon is a 4-star rated mens event offering a cash purse of $85,000.00 and valuable points leading to a berth on the Association of Surfing Professionals’ (ASP) elite World Championship Tour. crowd size: 20,000

Grant Seafood Festival – February 28-March 1

Space Coast Mardi Gras 2009 March 12-15

45th Annual Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival – April 10-12

crowdbeachOne of the longest running surfing festivals in the United States, the Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival the 45th Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival will be staged at Shepard Park and the Cocoa Beach Pier. Surfing Competitions will include events for Men, Women, Boys and Girls, from ages six to sixty. crowd size:150,000

May

Beach Fest and Military Sports Championship – May 21-25

beachfestAn annual even held every Memorial Day Weekend in May.  This music festival premiers the best in local and national bands. Beach Fest features free concerts and military beach competitions! As the time approaches will be listed a complete schedule of events on this site.  crowd estimate: 75,000

 TITUSNites Street Parties – June 5

0412aJoin the fun in downtown Historic Titusville for a fun time with live entertainment, food, drink, shopping, kids games and much more. There’s plenty of fun for the whole family. Admission is free to this event. Crowd size: 2,000

 

July

12th Annual Teen Fest -TBA
pic1The event caters to Teens only with activities including local performers on 2 stages, Inflatable Games, Rock Wall climbing and participation in skate & basketball competitions.A Drug- Alcohol- and Tobacco-Free Event. Held at Kiwanis Island Park, Merritt Island, just East of the Merritt Square Mall on SR 520. Crowd Size: 1,000

August 

India Day – August 15

2269277029_bff3f5d770indiafestThe bustle of a bazaar as the Indian-American community and locals celebrate India’s Independence with patriotic speeches, traditional dances and the occasional bite of sumptuous Indian delicacies.  crowd size: 5,000

The same group hosts India Fest in February which draws three times the crowd over a two day period. Could be the fact that they auction off a brand new Mercedes Benz.

14th Annual Family Salsa Festival and Miss Puerto Pageant-September 9

Melbourne Main Street Masters of Art Festival – October 3-4

melbourne20arts20festival_4688An annual fine art festival that is held in the fall in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Florida.  Participating artists are judged and awarded prizes for Best in Show, Excellence Award, Award of Distinction, and Merit Awards.  The festival includes live music, artist’s breakfast and champaign reception, food vendors and a quaint setting for local art lovers to stroll through the artist’s booths. crowd size: 25,000

25th Annual Festival of Trees – TBA

Get into the holiday spirit and let your kid’s imagination flow as the whole family enjoys the spectacle of holiday scenes, and decorated trees. A special attraction for the kids is always held and of course Santa Claus will be in attendance. crowd size: 1,000

Native Heritage Gathering Inc. Melbourne Pow Wow – TBA

coverThe Native Heritage Gathering, Inc. presents an annual traditional Pow Wow at Wickham Park Pavilion in Melbourne, Florida.  This celebration of dance, song and storytelling is an effort to gather the Native American community and visitors together to share and participate in the Native American culture in an educational environment. crowd size: 2,000
